Celebrating Christmas in Branson during Ozark Mountain Christmas is special. Oh, almost everyone knows about Branson’s Christmas shows, great shopping and magnificent drive through lighting displays, but do they “recall the most famous reindeer of all?” Whoops, meant to say “Do they recall the ‘Christmas Event’ that placed higher in ‘Amusement Today’s 2009 Golden Tickets Awards’ than either Disney’s ‘Magic Kingdom’ or ‘Disneyland?’”
If they did, it would be Silver Dollar City’s signature Christmas event “An Old Time Christmas.” An article by Tim Baldwin entitled “Shows and seasonal events diversify year-round entertainment” appearing in the September 2009 issue of “Amusement Today” discusses the Golden Ticket Awards for the category “Christmas Events.” Click here for entire article (Page 23).
Baldwin said, “Christmas seems to be a growing festival season as more and more parks around the globe tap into the goodwill and merriment of the December yuletide. Dollywood once again stays on top this year with its sister park Silver Dollar City placing second. Both of these parks have been noted in the media for the tremendous light displays that truly define breathtaking.”
The article goes on to state, “Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom jingles into third place on the charts with its sister park Disneyland also placing right behind. Completing the top five is the long running Christmas event at Hersheypark.”
The Golden Ticket Awards are presented to the “Best of the Best” in 25 categories. Winners are determined through a poll conducted by “Amusement Today” based on surveys sent out to experienced amusement park fans divided into four geographical divisions within the United States and internationally asking them to rate the “Bests” in the 25 categories.
Paul Miller, the general Manager for Branson Tourism Center, one of Branson’s largest and most respected vacation planning services and sellers of Branson show and attraction tickets and lodging said, “Silver Dollar City’s ‘An Ole Time Christmas’ is one of the top ‘Ozark Mountain Christmas’ activities year after year and is truly a one of a kind event with its spectacular lighting, rides, shows, food and friendly festive Christmas atmosphere.” He also points out that Silver Dollar City won the first place Golden Ticket Award in the “Friendliest Park Staff” category and second place in the “Best Food” category.
Silver Dollar City’s “An Old Time Christmas” is open Thursdays through Sundays through December 20 and open daily December 26-30 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. most days.
