Sounds of joy will raise from Branson’s CAM Gospel Sing-Off

The 2009 CAM Gospel Sing-Off winners the "Sons of the Silver Dollar."

Gospel music fans will have an opportunity to hear some great gospel music in Branson as the 12 finalists in the Branson Christian Action Ministries’ (CAM) Gospel Sing-Off “raise sounds of joy ” as they compete against each other. The Sing-Off will take place at the beautiful Sight and Sound Theatre, the home of spectacular productions of “NOAH the Musical” and the “Miracle of Christmas” at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 5.

The “joy” that fills the theatre as the finalists compete will come not only from their singing, but from the knowledge of knowing that it is all for the benefit of making sure that CAM’s food pantry can serve those of the Branson community needing its assistance. CAM Board Chairman Jack Burke points out the Sing-Off is a major source of fundraising for CAM’s Food Pantry. CAM’s Food Pantry provided services to 5,881 families and 14, 817 individuals in Taney county in 2009, an increase of 34 percent over 2008. So far in 2010 all indications are that the number of families and individuals needing help will grow even higher.

The 12 finalists were selected from over 50 entrants by a preliminary judging panel and will compete for $3,000 in prizes, $1,500 for First Place, $1,000 for Second Place and $500 for third place. They will be performing in front of a Branson audience and will be judged by a celebrity panel of judges consisting of Branson performers Barbara Fairchild, George Dyer, and Benjamin Dutton; Entertainment Editor for the Branson Daily Independent, Ronnie Page and John Bartley, a photographer who spent 40 years covering arts and entertainment for the Chicago Tribune.

This exciting afternoon of entertainment will emceed by Bob Hubbard of the Foggy River Boys and The Jordanaires. In addition to judging, the world-renowned tenor and Branson performer George Dyer will open the show with a performance. After the announcement of this year’s winners, last year’s winners, the ” Sons of the Silver Dollar,” will perform to conclude what promises to be an entertaining and inspirational afternoon.

In sponsoring the prize purse, Lianne Milton, co-owner of the Branson Tourism Center with her husband Larry, said, “As a member of the Branson community we are honored and humbled to be able to help further the work of Christian Action Ministries’ as it provides assistance and help to thousands of people within our community. We are so appreciative of the efforts of CAM and its dedicated volunteers for all that they do.”
