“It’s amazing,” said Paul Miller, General Manager, Branson Tourism Center, as he reviewed the information contained in a recent Baldknobbers Jamboree press release. “Today’s Branson, called by some ‘The live music show capital of the world,’ all started over 50 years ago with just one show and that show is still entertaining ‘packed houses’ of Branson visitors today.”

The information explained how the Baldknobbers started in historic downtown Branson in 1959 with the four Mabe Brothers and how the second and third generation Mabe family members are continuing the entertainment tradition their ancestors started. It was more than a tradition however, it was the variety show model that “started it all” with a combination of current and classical country hits and hilarious original comedy combined into a colorful and fast paced entertainment experience that has stood the test of time for going on 51 years.

Excerpts:

The Mabe brothers adopted the name of an old Ozarks vigilante group that held their meetings on a treeless hilltop or “bald knob”.
Second generation and producer, Tim Mabe, known to many as Droopy Drawers, Jr., says, “My dad and uncles founded the hillbilly humor of the Baldknobbers on the adage of the city slicker who comes to town to take advantage of the old hillbilly. And the hillbilly always gets the last laugh. The jokes are different but over 50 years later, it still holds true.”

Tim goes on to say, “We are one of the few shows that do an all new show each year. That means all new comedy, new music and even new costumes. And our show is completely live with some of the best singers and musicians in the country.”
